Poster presentation
Description
Poster presentation regards as a useful form of assessment in which is widely used in the presentation of research findings at professional conferences and meetings. It could be seen as an alternative form of assessment in place of traditional assessments such as exams and reports. Increasing number of disciplines has begun to employ this technique in their assessment process because of its potential benefits.
Implementation
Here are some recommendations on grading criteria if you would like to adopt poster presentation as your assessment tool:
- Poster content: The content should be concise and precise. Clumsy writing, such as using over-long sentences, should be discouraged. The use of text, images, figures and graphics can all be used to convey information effectively.
- Poster design:We may consider six elements for planning the design of posters: lettering, composition, lines, space, colour and overall arrangement. With these elements, posters should draw viewers’ attention and highlight the essential concepts within the work. - ‘Question and answer session’: For a poster presentation, students are required to ask questions raised by teachers and viewers. Teachers may assess students’ performance according to how they respond to these impromptu questions.
- Presentation skills: Teachers may give a rating based on this criterion to evaluate how well a student can communicate or interact with the audience
